Following God’s Plan For Our Lives And Not Our Plan Takes Faith

Jeremiah 29:11-13  For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come to pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you, declares the LORD.

Hebrews 11: 1,3, 6  Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it.  It is by faith we understand that the whole world was made by God’s command so what we see was made by something that cannot be seen.  Without faith no one can please God.  Anyone who comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who truly want to find him.

God is looking for Christians who not only go to church but who will step out in faith so that God can use them to make a huge difference in this world.

In the fall of 2003, Jerry kept getting calls for a job opportunity in Mandeville, LA.  Mandeville is on the north shore of New Orleans.  None of us wanted to even look at this opportunity.  We felt like God had finally taken us back home since we were finally living in Montgomery, Alabama.  Montgomery, AL is where Jerry and I moved to just a few months after we were married.  We lived there about seven years the first time.  A job had caused us to move away for a while and had been back in Montgomery for two years at this point.  We were at home and enjoying our friends and church.  God had other plans for our lives.  I made a comment years earlier to Jerry after visiting the New Orleans area on a business trip that I would never, ever live anywhere near New Orleans.  I am telling you right now; do not tell God you will never do something.  If you tell him you will never do something that will be the thing that he challenges you with the most to help you grow closer to him.  We decided to check out the area.  We prayed that if we did not have a peace about the move that we would not move.  Carly did not want to move or even visit the area.  She loved her friends and school in Montgomery.  Carly finally came to grips that it was probably God’s will for us to at least visit.  She told her dad and me that we could be missing out on plans that God has for our lives.  She came up with the idea that we might be moving so that we could adopt a little sister.  I told her that I hated to disappoint her but I really did not think so.  We went to visit the area.  We also visited a church that Sunday morning.  We sat in church right in front of a family of seven.  The oldest son and youngest daughter were biological children. The middle three children were all adopted.  As soon as we met them, I sat down in my seat and told God NO, NO, NO.  I told Him that my plate was full already.  I found out after service that the lady behind me, started a support group for families who had adopted children or were planning to adopt children from the Eastern Europe area.  www.leeaf.homestead.com She had 100 families that were a part of LEEAF.  In other words, there was a huge group of people in that area that had adopted children.  I knew I was in trouble.  After several days of praying, we all eventually had the peace that we were supposed to move to Mandeville.  We put our house on the market and it sold within 3 weeks.  We knew our future included Mandeville, LA and eventually adoption.  You can read the adoption story to find out the rest of this story.  If we would not have stepped out and followed God’s will we would not have adopted Jonah or Diana.  This website would have never been developed. Our family would have never been complete.  God’s plan is rarely what we want for our lives.  We have to submit to his will to receive all the blessings that he has in store for us.

If God is calling you to do whatever it is that He has placed in your heart and you have prayed about it and have peace, it is time for you to step out on faith and make a huge difference in this world for God.  God may not be calling you to adopt but He may be calling you to start that business, or go back to school, or fix that meal for your neighbor. Whatever it is, He is waiting on you.

May God Bless You As You Follow the Will He Has For Your Life.   Diane
